UPSC Geo-Scientist Exam: All You Need to Know

The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) conducts the Geo-Scientist Exam every year to recruit candidates for the post of Geologist in the Geological Survey of India (GSI). The exam is conducted in three stages: prelims, mains, and interview.

Eligibility requirements:


Candidates must have a Master's degree in Geology or a related subject from a recognized university.

Candidates must be between the ages of 21 and 32 years as on January 1, 2024.

Important dates:


Last date to apply: October 10, 2023

Prelims exam date: February 18, 2024

Mains exam date: June 22, 2024

Vacancy details:


A total of 150 vacancies are available for the post of Geologist in the GSI.


Application fee:


The application fee for the UPSC Geo-Scientist Exam is Rs. 200.


Exam pattern:


The prelims exam is an objective-type exam consisting of two papers. Paper I is on General Studies and Paper II is on Geology. The mains exam is a descriptive-type exam consisting of six papers. Paper I is on General English, Paper II is on General Studies, Paper III is on Geology, Paper IV is on Geochemistry, Paper V is on Geophysics, and Paper VI is on Mineralogy.


Interview:


The interview is the final stage of the exam and is conducted by a board of experts. The interview is designed to assess the candidate's personality, communication skills, and knowledge of geology.
